If I mention you in a blog post as a user of WordLand who's doing something interesting, it's almost a sure thing you will be contacted by a troll who follows me around. It used to be a lot worse. It was actually an organized thing. But some people have made it their life's mission to tell everyone who I like to work with that I'm an awful person to work with.
The biggest most effective troll actually worked for Google at a time when they had a lot of bones to pick with me. I'm just one person, they could have taken a different approach, and tried to help, but they didn't, they did the opposite.
Anyway if you let them color our friendship, they win. I ask that you to ignore the nasty stuff they say, ask them to stick to non-personal stuff. If they have something to contribute, great — but I have learned over many years that there's no place for personal attacks in online communities. I block people for getting personal on the first offense, without a second thought.
