After getting the bugs out of accessing the RSS feed managed for each site by WordLand I started digging into the category-based feeds maintained by WordPress.
I started with the feed for the WordLand category on the daveverse.org site.
The <image> element in the RSS feed was set to the default WordPress icon. Not very distinctive and a bit overwhelming when viewed in a timeline.
With some help from ChatGPT, I figured out how to set the icon for the daveverse site. I set it to the dogcow icon designed by Susan Kare. It has yet to show up in the feed, I understand this is because of caching. Let's see if the cache gets cleared when I post this new item to the feed.
This item appeared in the feed, but the dogcow still isn't the site's icon in the feed.
Let's try again…
Turns out there was a Save button at the bottom of the Settings/General page. Once saved, the docow shows up in the rendered page (nice). Does it appear in the feed? It does.
